Dear readers, I have returned. I would say triumphantly, but
currently (as those of you who follow my twitter account will be aware)
I’m typing this to you from an old, rickety and bloody-pressure raisingly slow
laptop, without a digital camera. It seems that I've been cursed by the God of
blogging technology. Anyhow, the blog is back and I just wanted to update you
all on some plans to develop it before we get back into writing about the world of
fine tailoring.
It’s a busy time, and I've got a number of plans to be
worked into reality over the coming months. I’m hoping to expand the blog’s
role as a reviewing platform and I intend to start offering more insight into
desirable brands and products in the new year, so that readers will be given more advice about
where to go to get the best shirt, or tie or shoes etc… I also am hoping to be
able to produce some more industry focused features, although
obviously most companies are currently running down for Christmas at the
moment. There will be fresh insights into new stores, brands and menswear
collections to come over the coming months. I also have a series of interviews
scheduled with various influential menswear professionals which will be taking
shape over the next week or so. Watch this space! For now, I have one further
project with the Cad & the Dandy forthcoming, the genesis of which you can
read about here.
With this new bespoke project in mind, I’m also going to
start to introduce readers to a tailoring service which receives very little
coverage in the tailoring world, as its constantly shut-out in favour of the
far less accessible and affordable bespoke tailoring. I’m talking about
‘Personal Tailoring’ an ingenious service which is designed to breech the gap
between high end off-the-peg tailoring, and full bespoke services. Personal
tailoring allows for a similar product to a bespoke garment to be made to the customer's measurements using a number of the
features of bespoke tailoring, and a wealth customisation options for a fraction of the price of full-bespoke. In this
sense it fulfills the luxury tailoring mid-market, as a significant step up from
off-the-peg and a step towards true bespoke. I’m not going to pretend that
personal tailoring comes anywhere close to fully bespoke services in terms of quality or attention to detail, but it can nonetheless provide an extremely good quality product, priced competitively, which is arguably more relevant to
today’s marketplace. I myself am a perfect example of the tailoring enthusiast
who aspires to have something made for himself, but cannot afford a fraction of
the four to five thousand pounds required for old-school bespoke tailoring;
thus, it is personal tailoring that I shall be exploring and reviewing, and I
hope that it’ll prove an invaluable source of product advice and interesting insight.
I’m also trying to make the effort to develop my other content. I’m aiming to offer the usual complement of style advice and insights
into the industry, alongside some more conceptual pieces; discussing broader issues surrounding the menswear industry with a view to provide some industry insight and knowledge to readers, as well as
provoke fresh thoughts.
As you can probably tell, I’m extremely excited about
developing the blog further, and I hope that you’ll enjoy following this next
phase of growth (once I have my laptop repaired and a new camera on the way of
course!) as the ‘Student Tailor’ prepares to take on the big boys – wish me
luck!
